Picture this – getting married in an art gallery surrounded by 18th century paintings while your guests mingle with fine Greek & Roman sculptures – that’s exactly what my friends Conor and Dara did on a beautiful sunny Thursday, last September in the heart of Cork city beside the Opera House.
This couple took the alternative wedding path and while Dara was very much a DIY bride, I’m delighted they chose Finer Details to create their wedding invitations. Conor & Dara selected the bespoke design option and I created their wedding invitations using a heavy weight cream shimmer card which was wrapped in a Japanese decorative paper and finished with a silver satin bow. Information cards were enclosed within the invitation, including a reply postcard which is becoming increasingly popular.
With a love for the arts it seems fitting that Conor & Dara were married in The Penrose Room at Crawford Art Gallery. They were the first couple to get married at this magical space, which only caters for very small guest lists. Conor tracked down the talented Limerick based busker, Peter Walls who performed at the ceremony. Afterwards the intimate wedding party dined at Issac’s on Mac Curtain Street, an award winning restaurant in an atmospheric 18th century former warehouse.
An evening of celebrations continued in West Cork with family and friends in the relaxed setting of Scannells Bar, Clonakilty. Dara had spent weeks decorating recycled glass jars with delicate lace and ribbon while gathering candles, fairy lights and crystals and bravely entrusted the decoration of the bar to her friends who were only too happy to lend a hand. White linen draped the tables which were dressed with cottage garden flowers and Dara’s beautifully decorated glass candle jars. While guests feasted on the delicious delights created by chef Ciara Ni Cheallachain, music played in the background and the entire bar was transformed creating the perfect wedding party atmosphere.

Dara’s stunning lace wedding dress, a Spanish label, was purchased from Ciara Bridal, which Dara found were “the most delightful people to deal with”! Her fabulous shoes were Jimmy Choo. Conor wore Paul Smith….love the cool knitted tie Conor!
Their friend Julie O’Hea took their photographs.
